Court sends Ex-BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta to Police custody in alleged TRP Scam

 On Friday, a Magistrate’s Court remanded Partho Dasgupta, an Ex-CEO of the rating agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), to Police Custody till December 28 in the alleged fake TRP scam. Dasgupta was arrested by the Mumbai crime branch from Pune district on Thursday and produced before the court on Friday. The police sought his remand for further probe, saying his custodial interrogation was required to understand his role in the scam. Dasgupta’s Lawyer Kamlesh Ghumre argued that the offences of cheating and criminal breach of trust for which he has been booked were not made out against him. Supreme Court to hear former India Goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey's plea on January 4

 On Jan 4, the Apex Court will hear an appeal from Ex-India goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey, who has sought elections in the All India Football Federation (AIFF), a source confirmed to the news agency on Saturday. Chaubey, who played for the senior national team from 1999-2006, had moved the Supreme Court earlier this month with an appeal to not extend the mandate of the current executive committee of the AIFF & hold fresh elections at an early date. He has also pleaded in the top court to correct the election eligibility process so that former players can also contest the elections & be part of AIFF's decision making. Man gets Life Imprisonment for Colleague's Murder

 A Court in Maharashtra's Thane has awarded life imprisonment to a 32-year-old man, who worked as a cook, for killing his colleague in 2015 over a financial issue. District Judge Hemant Patwardhan held Anil Rajbir Valmiki guilty under the Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) and 342 (wrongful confinement) on Wednesday and also pronounced the quantum of sentence. The Court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. Valmiki worked with a catering firm in Thane city. He and victim Sudhir Kameshwar Singh (33), who was his colleague, resided in the same locality. Singh had borrowed around Rs 5,000 from Valmiki, which he failed to return despite repeated reminders. Annoyed over it, Valmiki took the victim to his place in Vartak Nagar in the city on July 31, 2015, and attacked him with a metal object, following which he died, additional public prosecutor, Varsha Chandane said. HC: Once a prisoner obtains custody parole in a case, he need not obtain permission from every court where he has been convicted or is pending trial

 A Single Judge Bench of the Delhi High Court consisting of- Justice Anup Jairam, in the case of Mohd Shahabuddin vs State Govt Of NCT Delhi & Anr, has while espousing the basic legal rights of a prisoner ruled that: once a prisoner obtains custody parole in a case, he need not obtain permission from every court where he has been convicted or is pending trial. Factual Background                                        The petitioner, who was a convict and an undertrial in custody in Tihar Jail in Delhi in case arising from an FIR registered /Ss. 302/120-B/34 IPC and section 27 Arms Act - sought custody parole. Notice in this petition was issued- whereupon status report was filed by the concerned Jail Superintendent, Central Jail, Tihar and nominal roll was received from the prison authorities.  Alawyer from Punjab allegedly died by suicide by consuming poison on Sunday a few kilometres from the farmers' protest site at Tikri border. The deceased Lawyer, identified as Amarjit Singh from Jalalabad in Punjab's Fazilka district, was taken to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak where doctors declared him dead on arrival, news agency PTI reported police as saying.
